Personal Wiki Support — Getting Started

Interested in exploring Wikipedia and wiki-platforms as teaching tools? CUNY’s Wikimedian-in-Residence Richard Knipel can support your efforts.

Here’s how to get started!

  1. Fill out this short online form to request personal wiki support from CUNY Wikimedian-in-Residence Richard Knipel via one-on-one consultations, class visits, and in-class assignment support. Simply share your wiki-platform experience and more on what you are looking for, and Richard will be in touch.
  2. Drop in for Wiki-Wednesdays on the last Wednesday of the month at 11am. This Q&A Zoom chat welcomes wiki-users of all levels to connect, share, and collaborate with fellow staff on making CUNY’s rich archive of research materials more accessible to the public through Wikipedia and improving public access to quality information.
  3. Sign up on WikiEdu to set the groundwork for incorporating a Wikipedia assignment for students in your next course. WikiEdu is a nonprofit that serves as the bridge between academia and Wikipedia. The platform supports university instructors in the US and Canada in assigning students to improve Wikipedia articles related to their courses. Students gain skills like media literacy, writing and research development, and critical thinking, while filling in content gaps, enhancing representation, and improving citations on the world’s largest encyclopedia.
