This week, we highlight CUNY Newmark Wikimedian-in-Residence Program’s collaboration with the Center for Puerto Rican Studies (CENTRO) at Hunter College, home to the largest university-based archive dedicated to the Puerto Rican experience in the United States.
Collaborators from CUNY and beyond will be updating Wikidata entries for over 1600 individuals and organizations documented in the CENTRO archive, with plans to one day add Wikipedia articles for each entry in both English and Spanish. This work is also supported by Oscar Costero, Wikimedian-in-Residence for the WikiLatinos project.
Recently, pulling data from the CENTRO archives, CUNY Newmark Wikimedian-in-Residence Richard Knipel created the first Wikidata entry for the East Harlem 106th St. Festival—also known as the Puerto Rican Association for Community Affairs (PRACA) Hispanic Festival—founded by activist Yolanda Sanchez. And this is just the beginning: we look forward to seeing this collaboration grow both within and outside our CUNY community!
