This week, we highlight the collaboration between CUNY TV and the CUNY Newmark Wikimedian-in-Residence to bring the CUNY TV archives to Wikimedia Commons. With the expertise of archivist Allison Hamilton, who gained her Wikimedia experience as an Associate Archivist with CUNY’s Cultivating Archives & Institutional Memory project funded by the Mellon Foundation, CUNY TV plans to upload their image and multimedia assets to Wikimedia Commons. Most recently, they uploaded Wikipedia’s first image of Ronnie Eldrige, the former host of CUNY TV’s weekly television talk show Keeping Relevant

Eldrige, who passed away on March 4th of this year, was a well-loved television personality in New York City, and was also heavily involved in local politics, including representing the Upper West Side in the New York City Council. Eldrige was also a businesswoman and activist with a focus on women’s rights. As a valuable member of the CUNY community, we are thrilled to honor her with this collaboration between Wiki and CUNY TV.

Established in 1985, CUNY TV is committed to extending CUNY’s academic mission to connect and uplift the diverse experiences of New York communities through relevant and meaningful stories and offer lifelong learning opportunities to all New Yorkers. Thanks to Craig Newmark Philanthropies, this mission can extend to the greater Wiki community via the CUNY Wikimedian-in-Residence program.
